Finding Forrester Movie Review

Finding Forrester is a 136 minute long movie that was released in 2000 and directed by Gus Van Sant. Rob Brown plays Jamal, a 16 year old African American boy who is gifted in both basketball and writing. Sean Connery plays William Forrester, an old recluse who lives in an apartment across from the basketball court Jamal and his friends play at.

Jamal and his friends notice the old man watching them from his window every now and again so one of Jamal’s friends dare him to enter the old man’s apartment and steal something to prove he went in. Jamal is caught in the act by the old man and sprints out of the apartment, leaving his bookbag behind. Once Jamal gets his bookbag back he notices that all of his journals have been read and corrected by the old man, Jamal sees this as an opportunity and goes back to the apartment to ask the old man to look at some more of his works. After a while the old man lets Jamal into his apartment and becomes a sort of teacher for Jamal. While at school Jamal learns that the old man is actually William Forrester, the acclaimed author of Avalon Landing who never wrote another book and withdrew from society.

Finding Forrester is quite similar to the movie The Blind Side as both are heart-warming movies about unlikely friendships and overcoming adversity. Finding Forrester is not a critically acclaimed movie, only receiving a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 62% on Metacritic, in my opinion Finding Forrester is actually an unreal movie. I thought Finding Forrester was a great movie that had excellent acting and a great story. I would recommend this movie to just about everyone as it has something for everyone.
